I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to travel to the other lodges in the last couple of months.  This is the first year that I have really made the effort, and I’ve found it as rewarding as I’m sure many of you have.

Sitting on the sidelines at another Lodge is a great way to meet other Masons throughout the valley and state.  It also serves as an excellent opportunity to reflect on our own Lodge.  Seeing how others do things is a good way to constructively judge our own work and social customs.

As we approach the summer, I hope that we, as a Lodge, will continue this new habit we’ve developed and continue to make Mt. Moriah a greater presence on the Masonic stage.

Fraternally,
Eric Willson

Last month, we visited our Brothers at Acacia Lodge for their GMOV, and it was a great time. As many of you know, I travel for work and every time I visit a new city, I always try to attend a lodge meeting. It’s been one of the highlights of my Masonic journey.

Accordingly, I’d encourage every Brother to visit other Lodges. We often say to others that ours is the largest and oldest Fraternity in the world, but that means little if you never go outside your lodge. Take the opportunity to see how Masonry operates and meets in new places in Nevada, in the US, and even abroad in the world, should you ever have the chance. You won’t regret it!

Well brethren, you will notice there is a new look in the Trestle Board this Month. Although it’s still has much of the information that you need to keep in touch with your officers and brethren who are working for your lodge.

We have plenty of work in the quarries ahead of us this month that must be completed. I would like to thank all the Brethren for a very enthusiastic February; traveling to our constituent lodges, practicing on Saturdays and your unwavering Degree work.

I would also like to welcome our newly made Master Masons to further light in Masonry, which will undoubtedly find its way into the fabric of your life. Also, congratulations to our newly accepted Candidate who is as anxious to receive the Three Degrees of Freemasonry that we are about to confer upon him starting on March 21st. March 28th we will have an education lecture
from one of our esteemed members of the Fraternity, with an open forum discussion during and after. Spread the word and invite as many Masons you know and absorb as much light as possible.

Earnestly
Dennis Ashley,
Worshipful Master

February was a busy month for the Lodge. Several visits to other Lodges and two degrees was quite the schedule to keep.

Thanks go out to everyone who helped out and jumped through the hoops as problems arose and changes were needed.
March is looking to be scheduled out as well.

Please let me know if there are any parts you’ve been learning or wanting to learn. We always need more ritualists.

Eric Willson

While there are many virtues discussed in our work, I always come back to Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. Our goal is to bring men together on the level and inspire that sense of honest and genuine affection for one another. We look beyond the differences that divide the profane and build connections that enrich each of us.

In my interpretation, relief proceeds from Brotherly Love. If my Brother suffers, do we not also suffer? To improve ourselves and
each other, we must have a care to ensure that we are properly oriented in our attention. When profane troubles such as sickness and distress arise, they pull our attention, focus, and efforts away from the noble pursuits of our order.

Nothing can separate a man from himself more than dishonesty. This is why truth is one of the three virtues we practice. In all our doings and contemplations, we must constantly endeavor to seek truth for ourselves, our Brothers, our families, and the wider world.

Brethren; I have been in this office for one year now and it seems to be running a little easier. I‘m still working on tweaking it a little more by keeping better records. I always like to leave you with some sort of education information so here’s mine for March:

David Garrick (1717-1779)
Regarded, as the greatest actor in the history of the English stage. Born Feb. 19, 1717 in Hereford, England, of Huguenot descent, he met Samuel Johnson while a student at Lichfield grammar school and became his first pupil at Edal. In 1737 he accompanied Johnson to London, where he made his reputation by acting in Richard III, Oct. 19, 1741. His success
continued in other Shakespearean plays and he became co-manager of Drury Lane Theatre in 1747. Amassing a fortune, he retired to Hampton in 1776. He enjoyed the friendship of Dr. Johnson and his circle of distinguished persons of that day. A Mason, he is thought to have belonged to St. Paul’s Lodge No. 194. This lodge has Garrick’s snuff box which, the old minutes state, “replaces one presented to the lodge by Bro. David Garrick.” He died Jan. 20, 1779.
